    Amanda's Bio:
I grew up in the Twin Cities, but now live up in Ely, MN near the BWCA, where my family has been for the last 7 years. I have three brothers, who I adore, and I enjoy fishing, playing basketball, and rough housing with them whenever I can. My mom has been a daycare provider since I was born, which served as inspiration for me to pursue a degree in Elementary education. I also love to paint, draw, and DANCE! I have been dancing for twenty years and am a dance instructor in Superior, WI....I can't imagine a life without it!

Where does my money go?

Into driving and maintaining my vehicle!  Evidently I am not the only one.  There have been numerous studies about exactly how much it costs to purchase, own, and maintain a vehicle annually, and after doing some research, I have been able to conclude that this is exactly why I am broke 🙂  Here are my findings:

  •  A small car burns 9 cents worth of gas per mile (about $1,400 per year)
  •  A four-wheel drive SUV is the most expensive, at nearly 17 cents worth of gas per mile (about $2,300 per year)
  • On average, the cost for insurance for one vehicle annually is $1,031
  • License, registration, and taxes alone amount to approximately $600 per year on average
  • On  average, a car depreciates in value by 45% in the first 3 years.  So, for a car that costs $25,000 from the lot, the trade-in value of it after 3 years will only be $13,750!
  • Car maintenance, on average, costs around $1,200 per year.

Hard facts to swallow, huh?  Certainly was for me.  If you need a little bit of reassurance that you are not the only one grappling with financial woes, here is an excellent link to check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TX50U0duMJw.  Might cheer you up a bit!
