    Amanda's Bio:
I grew up in the Twin Cities, but now live up in Ely, MN near the BWCA, where my family has been for the last 7 years. I have three brothers, who I adore, and I enjoy fishing, playing basketball, and rough housing with them whenever I can. My mom has been a daycare provider since I was born, which served as inspiration for me to pursue a degree in Elementary education. I also love to paint, draw, and DANCE! I have been dancing for twenty years and am a dance instructor in Superior, WI....I can't imagine a life without it!

Summer Working

I have been starting to think about summer a lot lately (probably after getting all of this snow and wishing that it would go back to the upper 30s and mid 40s we had only a week ago).  I work as a resort manager up in Ely, and prior to taking on my first teaching gig, I really cannot wait to spend three months just working and helping tourists on the lake…hopefully gaining a pretty nice tan in the process.  It gets ridiculous up there with all of the tourism and crazy busy action for those coming to check out the BWCA.  We get boyscout troops of up to 30 or 40 at a time, not to mention the regular giant families of 8 or 9 that come to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, or other special occasions.  Coordinating it all and staying on top of it can really get overwhelming at times, but to be completely truthful, it is a whole different kind of stress than I have been dealing with during the last 3 months and I am looking forward to having the change of pace.  It always helps to keep life in perspective for me, pull me away from the education jargon and day to day responsibility, and remind me of the realities and truths that make up life.  It’s like a religious experience, really.

So, if you are getting stressed out or overwhelmed after returning from your spring break, just think: SUMMER.  What will you be doing and where will you be spending yours?
