    Amanda's Bio:
I grew up in the Twin Cities, but now live up in Ely, MN near the BWCA, where my family has been for the last 7 years. I have three brothers, who I adore, and I enjoy fishing, playing basketball, and rough housing with them whenever I can. My mom has been a daycare provider since I was born, which served as inspiration for me to pursue a degree in Elementary education. I also love to paint, draw, and DANCE! I have been dancing for twenty years and am a dance instructor in Superior, WI....I can't imagine a life without it!

Spending Time With Youngsters

During this last year, I became a Godmother to a sweet little boy.  I love him very much and I enjoy spending all the time I can with him.  As his auntie, I want to ensure that I teach him lots of important things, nurture him, and also allow him to have the most fun he can possibly have.  I am sure many of you know a child in your life that you feel the same way about, whether a sibling, a cousin, or even a child you babysit for frequently.

There are so many ways to help a child grow through the activities you do with them, and there is really no “wrong way.”  However, these are some awesome ideas that I can’t wait to do with my little man!

  • Hunt for fossils.  Go to the Dollar store and buy some fake bones (or use doggy biscuits) and bury them in the sandbox.  Take your kiddo and with a paintbrush, have them hunt those puppies down!
  • Play balloon tennis.  Attach two paper plates to two big Popsicle sticks to form your “rackets” and blow up a balloon for the ball.  Cute.
  • Have a puppet show with paper bags!  Classic storytelling activity.
  • Play house or any other make believe game.  Have them take on a role and dress up, such as a chef, grocery stocker, or anything else they can imagine.
  • Create your own holiday.  Have your kiddo choose a day that will now be the “holiday day” for you two.  Give it a theme and record or take pictures of all the activities you do.
  • Make fun necklaces!  Use macaroni noodles or big pony beads and let the kids work on their patterns.
  • Play “Don’t touch the ground.”  Remember when you were little and you were convinced that the floor was made of hot lava?!  Have you and your kiddo try to stay off the floor by jumping onto floor mats or (if it’s okay) furniture.
  • Start a band.  Make your own instruments or use toys.
