I grew up in the Twin Cities, but now live up in Ely, MN near the BWCA, where my family has been for the last 7 years. I have three brothers, who I adore, and I enjoy fishing, playing basketball, and rough housing with them whenever I can. My mom has been a daycare provider since I was born, which served as inspiration for me to pursue a degree in Elementary education. I also love to paint, draw, and DANCE! I have been dancing for twenty years and am a dance instructor in Superior, WI....I can't imagine a life without it!

Happy Family Weekend

This weekend is family weekend, and I know many of you have family and friends who have come up to enjoy campus and visit with you!  I realize that many assume that this weekend is primarily for freshmen students, but in actuality, even upperclassmen have family coming up and visiting, just so they can have an opportunity to catch their kids during the hustle and bustle of the year!  I have a couple friends that are seniors that will be having their moms come and visit them today, which I think is a super special occasion…and also a very perfect time to have some bonding time.

If you have family coming up this weekend, be sure to give them a “tour” of the campus, now that you have spent some time living here and know the ropes.  Show them where your classes are, where your favorite study spots are, or where you like to kick it with your friends when you have some down time.

Then, take advantage of the next couple “nice days” that we will have down here in terms of weather.  It should be sunny and around 50 degrees for the next two days, so a walk in Canal Park or on the lakewalk would not be such a bad idea.  There are still some fall colors to admire, so catch them while you can!  Or, if it’s more up your alley, do some shopping together, have a lunch date, or grab a cup of coffee at Caribou or Starbucks and catch up.  That is always my favorite thing to do with my mom when I get to spend time with her!

Hope everyone has a wonderful family weekend and that you enjoy every moment of time you get!
