    Amanda's Bio:
I grew up in the Twin Cities, but now live up in Ely, MN near the BWCA, where my family has been for the last 7 years. I have three brothers, who I adore, and I enjoy fishing, playing basketball, and rough housing with them whenever I can. My mom has been a daycare provider since I was born, which served as inspiration for me to pursue a degree in Elementary education. I also love to paint, draw, and DANCE! I have been dancing for twenty years and am a dance instructor in Superior, WI....I can't imagine a life without it!

First day of Field Experience

Well, I had my first day of field experience at Laura MacArthur Elementary today.  Sooo fun!  The second graders are extremely adorable and, as you can expect, are filled with youthful energy!  Today we did a lot of work on reading and literature components, including small reading groups and writing.

I was amazed at the process for learning to write basic print letters at this age.  I can’t really remember going through this process as an elementary schooler.  I clearly remember doing cursive handwriting and how to form those letters, but for some reason printing is a blur.   So when I was in class today, I sort of got an opportunity to “re-learn” how to properly form my letters when writing.  It’s funny how quickly we forget fundamentals like this!

What was more, the kids caught wind that today was my 21st birthday.  So, naturally they all wanted to sing me happy birthday (right in the middle of doing a spelling activity, might I add).  It was pretty humorous.  They were all puzzled as to why my name wasn’t on the board and I didn’t get a shiny new pencil! haha

Overall, an extremely positive and fun experience, especially for the first session.  Come next week, I will know exactly what to expect!
