I have three brothers, who I adore, and I enjoy fishing, playing basketball, and rough housing with them whenever I can. My mom has been a daycare provider since I was born, which served as inspiration for me to pursue a degree in Elementary education. I also love to paint, draw, and DANCE! I have been dancing for twenty years and am a dance instructor in Superior, WI....I can't imagine a life without it!

Dance…back in the GROOVE

Today marked my first day back at the studio teaching dance.  It amazes me every year how eager the girls are to begin another season!

My first class of the evening was a lyrical-ballet class for 3rd-5th graders.  The girls and I worked on everything from leaps to pirouettes to shanae turns.  At the end of class we talked about what kind of song that they wanted to perform to this year, and I almost laughed out loud when one of the little girls yelled out “KATY PERRY!”

Second, I had a jazz class for pre-teens.  It was so fun!  We did kicks across the floor, leaps, and even touched on c-jumps.  The ladies were positive that they wanted to be challenged in the class, and I promised that I would not hold back on my end.  They are also determined to dance to a song by Justin Bieber this year…hmmmm….

The final class I taught tonight was lyrical-ballet for ages 12 and up.  Very interesting group of girls, but equally enjoyable to work with.  This group definitely ranges the very most in skill levels, which may prove somewhat challenging for me as a teacher.  However, I look forward to learning from them and can’t wait to see what the next class brings forth.  This group had no choice in their song, since I had already chosen it.  GOOD DECISION on my part.

The underlying lesson of the day: the music industry has an enormous impact on the mind of young children…aka: Bieber fever!
