    Amanda's Bio:
I grew up in the Twin Cities, but now live up in Ely, MN near the BWCA, where my family has been for the last 7 years. I have three brothers, who I adore, and I enjoy fishing, playing basketball, and rough housing with them whenever I can. My mom has been a daycare provider since I was born, which served as inspiration for me to pursue a degree in Elementary education. I also love to paint, draw, and DANCE! I have been dancing for twenty years and am a dance instructor in Superior, WI....I can't imagine a life without it!

Back to Duluth!

Today’s the day.  Break is slowly coming to an end for me and I am returning to Duluth to prepare for student teaching my little kiddos at the beginning of the New Year.  It is a bitter sweet day for me.  I have so enjoyed spending time with my family and being up in the Northland, but I also know the responsibilities and work that lie ahead of me once I get back.  It is the final lap, the final semester, so  I am trying to keep that in mind as my break gets cut two weeks short!

Packing and getting ready to go is always the toughest part of traveling from Duluth to home and back to Duluth during each break.  I always feel like I am going to forget something important and realize what it is when I am too far away to turn back!  What works for me is to do a mental check in my head of all of the “loose ends” that I need to have taken care of when I leave:

____Did you unplug all electrical appliances and turn off all lights and fixtures?

____Did you get rid of any unused food items that will go bad while you’re away and empty out the garbage/recycling?

____Did you do all dirty dishes and clean up counters?

____Did you make sure that all “necessity” items are packed (i.e. contact lenses, hygiene items, cell phone, chargers, etc)

____Did you close all windows, lock the doors, and make sure they were shut tightly when leaving?

____Is your car prepared for the drive and in good driving condition?

____Last, but not least, did you say goodbye to all of your family and loved ones before leaving? (I always get yelled at for this one!)
