Best Hour of Class Ever

I just did something that I never thought I would in my college classes: Colored. I am in the Honors Program and have been taking some really interesting honors classes. Basically they are deep, intellectual thinking classes that revolve around reading and meaningful conversations. This semester I am taking a course called Great Ideas: Beauty. We have talked about a thousand different things involving beauty and the word beautiful. We have come to the idea that they are two different things. It is such an interesting class, and this last hour made it even more so. One topic we’ve talked about is meditating. My professor knew that we have all kind of been stressed being that the semester is at its busiest time and we are getting more and more tired. So what she did was give us an outline of a picture, some markers, and told us to have at it and color it. We put on some relaxation music, and literally colored for 35 minutes. A part of meditating is being in the moment and being present with what you are doing, and those 35 minutes was the most “in the moment” I have been in a long time. I’m always worrying about what I have to do next and how to stay on schedule and get my stuff done. But I didn’t worry about any of that while I was coloring. I was truly in a stress free, relaxed state, and it felt so good. It came just in time for the weekend which is officially here! Yay!
