Local Music: Lake Effect

Friday, June 2nd, 2017

My last night before I left for London was spent enjoying some local music at a small bar. Lake Effect is a rock band that plays in Duluth and the McGregor Area and specializes is classic rock, old school rock, new age rock, and country. They’ve been around for a few years but I only heard about them recently as I am friends with the drummer. Mostly they play at bars but they are also available for hire for dances, benefits, parties, and more. While I prefer swing dancing, I still had fun dancing up a storm as I jammed out to some Bowling for Soup!

I can hardly believe it but Equilibrium was my last choir concert ever. I’ve been in at least one choir every year for eleven years. Singing has been a stress reliever, a joy, and a grand adventure. It has taken me to Chicago, New York, Nashville, and beyond. I had originally not planned on continuing choir in college until I learned about St. Scholastica’s music scholarship. On a whim, I auditioned and was given an award to continue music. In Women’s choir I made friends and got out of my comfort zone. Encouraged by my director and friends, I auditioned for Bella Voce. Bella Voce has been more than a music class to me. It introduced me to some of my best friends, got me involved with social justice, and introduced me to knew people and perspectives. Thank you Bella Voce and Dr. Amundson for helping me grow.

Annual Scholarship and Creative Arts Presentation

Thursday, April 27th, 2017

Yesterday I presented my research at the annual Scholarship and Creative Arts presentation in the Benedictine Commons. This was possibly my favorite time I presented my research. Because it was at St. Scholastica, so many students and faculty who were involved with the concert in some way visited my poster excited to hear what I worked on. Singers who’ve performed in it, artists who designed and painted the mural we donated this year, and several audience members asked insightful questions and occasionally tried to stump me! I had a great time working on this project but I am excited to move on to something new in graduate school this Fall.

Vocal Rev Concert!

Wednesday, April 26th, 2017

This weekend there was a concert put on by our acapella group Vocal Rev! Two of my friends are in the group and it is always really fun to see them sing. Earlier in the year they did the group of songs from Guardians of the Galaxy so it was fun to hear some of those songs and some new ones!
