Plight of the Edmund Fitzgerald

Wednesday, November 14th, 2018

Last weekend was a very important weekend at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park which houses Split Rock lighthouse. Each year, there is a commemoration for the 29 lives lost upon the Edmund Fitzgerald on the 10th of November 1975. A year later a famous song was released about the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. It sunk due to a late November storm on the lake and all lives aboard were lost.

Recap of the first snow

Thursday, October 18th, 2018

On October 11th, I woke up and looked out the window and to my surprise, I found the white fluffy stuff you see all winter long in good-old Minnesota. My ESA adores snow til the end of the earth and I couldn’t help my delight at him booking it around the snow. His happy little face at the snow swirling around and digging through the half inch of snow to find the still green grass. I wasn’t expecting to find this present when I woke up in the morning but I was happy to see my dog so happy rolling and bouncing. So much so, that I was a tad late to class and after explaining the situation to my professor, he totally understood as his own dog had done the same thing this morning. This is also a short example of how it is easy to connect well with your professors here and how kind they can be.

Spring Scrimmage Day

Sunday, April 22nd, 2018

Yesterday was a long, soccer filled day. The St. Scholastica Women’s soccer team, which I am a member of, had three games. The first game at 10 am was over at Griggs Field at UMD. Unfortunately we started off rough and let in goals early. As the game progressed, however, we gained confidence and finished strong. The second game was at 12:20 pm at Saints Field. We played Lake Superior Community College, and we played very well. At that point, most of us were becoming fatigued, but we pushed through and got the win. The third and final game was against our alumni at Saints Field. That game is always difficult because the alumni go so hard, and we were all so tired from playing two games prior. The best part of the day was after our final game though because pizza and Gatorade was waiting for us on the sideline. Overall the day was perfect weather and filled with fun. Also, I got my first sunburn of the year… So thankful for aloe vera!!
