S-STEM Scholarship Program

Monday, May 28th, 2018

There is a great opportunity for St. Scholastica students who are thinking about pursuing a STEM major. St. Scholastica offers a scholarship program called the S-STEM Scholarship that gives CSS students an additional $6,500 per year. It is more than just a scholarship, however. If you apply for and receive this scholarship, you will have access to a ton of different resources to help build your resume and help prepare you for life after college working in the STEM field. Some of the opportunities you will have access to include job fairs, seminars, workshops, employer visits, research, grad school visits, and career counseling. I have been a part of this program for the past year and it has been a great experience. I will be continuing with the program until I graduate! Typically, the program only accepts second year students and up, but this past year, they accepted freshmen students for the first time so I think it is definitely something to look into. The majors that qualify for the program are Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Information Systems/Computer Science and Mathematics (except for clinical fields such as pre-med). If you are interested in more information about this scholarship, here is the link on the CSS website: http://www.css.edu/academics/s-stem-scholarship-program.html

Day at the Mall

Tuesday, April 24th, 2018

With the sun out and less homework to work on, I decided to run some long overdue errands at the mall this past weekend. I had an appointment to get new glasses and while waiting, I did a lot of window shopping and checking out new items on sale (yeah that’s right!). I discovered that Younkers is closing and most items are being sold 30% off! I spent some time in Old Navy where there were some good jeans at 50% off! After collecting my new glasses and spending quite a fortune on lunch, jeans, and glasses combined, I made my way back to CSS, to enjoy the rest of the weekend and recover from the financial blow I had just dealt myself!

Winter No More

Thursday, April 19th, 2018

Spring? Is that you? Today in Duluth, MN, we actually got a taste of spring! In fact, it got above 50 degrees, so that means it is basically summer here. It was a nice day to walk from class to class in a t-shirt and soak up some sun. This warm weather has me and everyone else feeling hopeful that winter is coming to an end. I certainly hope so! Here in the dorms, everyone walks around looking like ghosts because it has been winter for so long, but not any more. The sun is out and summer is coming! Baseball and softball actually got to play games today after having many of their games postponed, so I am sure they are feeling good. A friend of mine informed me that as of today, 19 days until I get to go home for the summer and enjoy the stress free life. The countdown is on.
