The Cat Walk

There are MANY pet owners in the Duluth area and it’s not impossible to own a pet when you are renting a place of campus (the only animals you can have on campus are fish, but if you need a service animal the Center for Disability can help you make accommodations!)

Many rental properties don’t like animals and have no pet policies as well, but some allow you to have pets and some allow you to have pets with an extra deposit.

I personally have a cat, Mittens! (You may have seen her in older posts of mine) However, one thing about Duluth is that it is pretty busy. I have never felt comfortable letting a cat outside to roam with busy streets and not much for backyards, so I decided to get a harness for her! haha I know I am that crazy cat lady.. but Mittens seems to enjoy being outside now and then!

My cat Mittens!

Advice for any of you considering bringing or getting animals while you are living in Duluth:

  • Know your environment and what is safe for your pets
  • Know your local resources: pet stores, shelters, etc.
  • Be aware of your renting policies and make sure your roomies are okay with your furry friend!
