A Day in the Life of Pediatrics

At Stowe Elementary School gym!

This semester we are taking a course in Pediatrics (children).  This course is a more in depth follow-up of our Lifespan class last spring, and provides us with skills and strategies to evaluate and treat the pediatric population. A perk about the pediatrics course is that it provided us with another experience with working with children. Our class was split into 6 groups who were able to go in the morning or the afternoon to Stowe Elementary School. Each group of 6 students were instructed in planning a fun activity for this kids to do during their gym time with us. We had to incorporate the ideas of physical therapy skills were learning in class into the activities were planning. My group decided to do a scooter race, weaving through and circling around cones. One thing that was reinforced for us was that you always have to be on your toes to think of back-up plans to keep kids engaged in the activities we had planned. Overall, very fun working with the kiddos and I can definitely see myself working with children someday!
