Greetings from London!

After months of anticipation, I have finally arrived in London, England to embark upon my study-abroad opportunity of a lifetime, Semester at Sea. Upon arriving on August 19th, I spent 4 days running the tubes, or subways, with new friends and class mates from Semester at Sea. The students sailing with me in the fall are from all over the world, and I cannot wait to develop strong friendships with them as we sail from Europe to Africa and South America!

We spent the greater part of the stay in London exploring the vast neighborhoods, pubs, and iconic locations throughout the historic city. I stayed in a hostel, which is a hotel with communal bunk-style living which is ideal for backpackers and travelers on-the-go. My friends and I toured the London Tower, which was home to many royal courts and the crown jewels, Buckingham Palace, and even participated in a Jack the Ripper Tour, which took us through the dark alleyways where the unidentified murderer committed his notorious crimes.

The atmoshpere is electric, and I am anticipating the adventure of a lifetime. I’ll keep you posted with more news once I board the ship.

Best wishes from London,

Jake Reshetar
