    Courtney's Bio:
I'm an Elementary Education major at CSS. I also plan to minor in Spanish. Having done PSEO, I came to CSS with more than 60 credits. I'm part of Volunteers Involved Through Action (VITA), Students Today Leaders Forever (STLF), and other clubs! Dance has been part of my life for 10 years, and now I'm trying to fit it into my schedule again. I love spending time watching Supernatural and Once Upon a Time, and reading Harry Potter and other great books. I live in a suite with 3 other girls, and we are always finding something fun to do around campus!

Reasons to Go to Graduate School

As a person who had never had immediate family attend college before, being a first-generation college student wasn’t even appealing at first. I didn’t see the point. Upward Bound and some cousins in the education field really introduced me to the idea that college was a massive door opener. It’s a dramatic difference to look at my 7th grade self and now 9 years later I have been researching graduate programs! I am graduating from CSS with a B.S. in Elementary Education this May. Originally I had planned to minor in Spanish, then Art, then I realized that switching had prevented me from having time to minor in anything – if I still wanted to graduate a year early anyway. In today’s job market for teachers, my degree is perfectly fine, however I want to be secure and prepared for tomorrow’s job market. I have been researching graduate programs in which I can earn my Master’s Degree or additional credentials. Eventually I would like to work as a specialist, not necessarily forever, but I would like the opportunity to explore that path. These are all reasons to explore my options of graduate schools. So far, I’ve been considering a few state schools and CSS. The nice thing about most of them is that they are online; however they all vary in cost and availability of programs… That gives me a lot to think about. Updates will come later!
