    Cheyenne's Bio:
Hello hello, my name is Chey! I fully admit that I am an over achiever and a slacker simultaneously. I am really involved in social justice on campus, especially the Indigenous Student Alliance. I love cats and science fiction. I come from a big family so community and connections are important to me.

Roommate Realness

When living with 1 to 3 other people things can get messy. Not just in the physical space, but in the emotional and mental ones too. I live off campus and still have roommates, so being able to live in community is an important skill to have. I have found that there are 3 keys to living with roommates.

  1. communication
    • talk about what your apartment rules are
      • what is the policy on sleep overs
      • what is okay to be shared
    • talk about your pet peeves
      • do you hate loud talking on the phone?
      • do you prefer that the coffee table not be cluttered?
      • please don’t hit snooze 4 times in the morning
    • talk about doing things together outside of the apartment
      • plan roommate dates
      • plan grocery runs
      • hit the gym together
    • talk about who’s turn it is to do a particular chore
      • do not be passive aggressive
      • the longer you leave something be, the bigger an issue it becomes.
  2. Respect
    • privacy is important
      • don’t snoop, it’s just rude
    • your roommate is going to have friends other than you
      • don’t be mad when they already have plans, instead reschedule
    • if your roommate has a test tomorrow consider letting them have some quiet time
  3. Responsibility
    • hold up your end of the deal
      • groceries
      • cleaning supplies
    • make sure you’re cleaning up after yourself
      • they’re your roommate, not your maid or mother
      • you share a space, be mindful of that
