“Ugly” Sweaters

It's December. Which means everyone calls festive sweaters "Ugly Christmas Sweaters." I'm the type of person that doesn't get into the Christmas spirit until the week before Christmas. However, I can appreciate an over the top Christmas Sweater any day of December. I personally only own one seasonal sweater, a snowman sweater with button eyes. It's secretly my favorite sweater and I wear it to every Christmas occasion I possibly can. I love seeing other people don their jingle bell covered, shiny, gaudy Christmas sweaters. It makes this cold and dark part of the year worthwhile! Don't be embarrassed by your Frosty, Rudolf, or Santa Clause bling. I am saying it now, I appreciate your extra Christmas spirit. The "uglier" the sweater the better! There is an Ugly Sweater sale, Ugly Sweater party, and even an Ugly Sweater bowling night planned this month. If only I had more Christmas and winter themed sweaters..

Grandma’s Marathon

This past weekend was Grandma's weekend in Duluth. This is a time when the local economy gets stimulated and a lot of people spend time outdoors or out eating and celebrating. Every year a marathon brings in visitors from far and wide. There are 3 races: a 5K, a half marathon, and a full marathon. So whether you want to run 26.2 miles, 13.1 miles, or just 3.1 miles there is an option available for you! There are a plethora of celebrations, pasta buffets, and entertainment events that happen pre- and post-race. Many people stay just one or two nights, but others make it a 4 day weekend so they can enjoy the sights in Duluth. The college hosts runners and spectators as guests during the marathon weekend, so it's an interesting time to meet people at work for me. Read the rest of this entry »

An Open Letter to My Freshman Self

Hey Chey, College is scary and that is okay. You're going to learn so much about who you are and how strong you can be. Nothing worth having is easy, and college is going to hammer this lesson home. 8 AM classes are not going to be easy any more. When you feel like you're going to fall asleep, sit in the front of class. Cut down your caffeine consumption, that way you can use it when you really need it. You are mentally ill, please make sure you are taking care of yourself. This is new information that a lot of other young adults are finding out too. You are not alone. Go to counseling services, talk to your doctor. Most of all, lean on your support system, they have your back. Don't expect things to fix themselves. Read the rest of this entry »

Puppy Fever

Lately I've been really wanting dog snuggles. I don't necessarily want a dog, I just want to hug play with one. A few of my friends have dogs, but what would I do if they weren't around? Read the rest of this entry »
